Infused Lemon Oil

How to make your own Lemon Oil

Cold Version

  • Wash your lemons (6) throughly under cold water and leave them to dry for 2 hours.

  • Peel your lemons using a knife, vegetable peeler, or zester.

  • Pack your lemon peel into an airtight jar. Screw on the lid and shake well.

  • Add your chosen carrier oil. (grapeseed, almond, or coconut)

  • Place the jar on your windowsill for 2 weeks and allow the heat to infuse your oils together.

  • After two weeks, use a strainer or cheesecloth to separate the oil from the peel.

Hot Version

  • Wash your lemons (6) throughly under cold water and leave them to dry for 2 hours.

  • Peel your lemons using a knife, vegetable peeler, or zester.

  • Place your lemon peel in a small pot and pour your coconut oil over the top.

  • Gently heat the oil and bring it to a simmer for 5 min, then allow it to cool.

  • You can leave your oil in a glass bowl and place this over the top of a pot of water, leaving it to a simmer for 2-3 hours.

  • Strain the oil into your airtight jar using a strainer or cheesecloth, and store in a cool, dark place.

Homemade lemon oil is a much less concentrated version of essential oils but that doesn't mean they aren't impactful. Homemade lemon oil is an "infusion" of the lemons and is considered safe for internal consumption. DIY oil is for cooking. Cooking lemon oil that is too potent is not recommended; it can lead to irritation in the body or the internal organs.
