What is a distillation oil?

Writer's picture: HollieHollie

The oils have separated from the hydrosol that was made last night. You can use the hydrosol as is with the oils still in them or you can extract them and have essential oils to use as well. For now, I’ll be keeping them together.

Merriam Webster says: “any of a class of volatile oils that give plants their characteristic odors and are used especially in perfumes and flavorings, and for aromatherapy”. Where “volatile” means: “(of a substance) easily evaporated at normal temperatures”. What this means is that an essential oil is made up of the distilled parts of a plant that are volatile.

You can see the oils have separated from the hydrosol. A hydrosol is also called floral water or herbal water.
